Please note that Buy Me a Coffee is the best way to donate to our poets right now—they can access this money faster than payouts from the website. Thank you for your support.
The Gaza Poets Society is a Gaza-based literary organization dedicated to promoting the work of emerging artists and poets in the Gaza Strip. Through our publications and initiatives, we act as a conduit for Gazan poets to connect with the international literary community.
Founded in 2018 by Gazan poet Mohammed Moussa, the Gaza Poets Society is the first spoken-word poetry community in the Gaza Strip. The group has organized three slam poetry events for Gazan youth: “Gaza Youth Speak,” “Hymns of Peace,” and “Our Dreams Matter.” The Society has also published two anthologies, Love and Loss and, more recently, My Death is Not a Song for You to Sing. The inaugural issue of Gaza Verse Journal is now available!
Sharing poetry from each poet in the Gaza Poets Society is a delicate moment, as we worry we may not hear from them again.
After almost two years of relentless attacks on our city, it feels like the poems we create could be our final messages. Some write on scraps of paper or in notebooks while being displaced, moving from one place to another, often forgetting what we wrote in our homes before fleeing. Our poetry can be lost, just like us, at any moment in Gaza.
I find writing helps when I'm overwhelmed by this half-life, this genocide; it's like the words are stuck in my throat, and I just have to get them out.
Mohammed Moussa, “Writing Poetry in the Time of Genocide”
Each purchase directly supports our poets on the ground in Gaza.
With your support, we hope to publish and distribute physical copies of our anthologies in addition to the digital versions. All proceeds from the bookstore are used to support and expand our initiatives and, increasingly, help our poets in Gaza meet their basic needs amidst famine and siege. Shop our books.

All bookshop proceeds and donations are managed by Mohammed Moussa, the founder of the Society. All funds received are used either to fulfill the basic needs of our poets in the Gaza Strip or expand the scope of our literary projects.
-
Proceeds from the website are managed by US-based volunteers who transfer funds directly to Mohammed Moussa, our founder, through a third-party platform. Moe assesses needs on the ground and decides how the money is used.

Gaza Verse is a journal of Palestinian survival, selfhood, and resistance. Each issue of Gaza Verse nurtures the voices of young people from Gaza and beyond through poetry, prose, and visual art. We are a breathing archive of worlds that cannot be buried.
